About the Text Faces
Text faces, also called kaomoji or emoticons, are little faces built from letters, symbols and characters from other alphabets. Unlike emoji, they are plain text, so they work anywhere you can type, from Discord and Twitch chat to game usernames and comments.
Tap any face to copy it instantly. Each tap also adds the face to the builder box at the top, so you can combine several faces and symbols and copy them together. Faces are grouped by mood: the classic Lenny face, shrugs, table flips, happy, love, sad, angry, animals and dancing.
A few faces use rare characters. If one shows up as boxes after pasting, the app or font you pasted into does not support that character, so try another.
How to use it
- Find a face in the mood you want.
- Tap it to copy it. It is also added to the builder box.
- Paste it anywhere with Ctrl+V, Cmd+V or a long press.
What the most famous text faces mean
- ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) Lenny face: mischief or a knowing smirk.
- ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Shrug: whatever, I don't know, it is what it is.
- (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ Table flip: pure frustration.
- ┬─┬ノ( º _ ºノ) Table back: calming down and putting the table back.
- ಠ_ಠ Look of disapproval: unimpressed staring.
- (ง •̀_•́)ง Fighting stance: ready to take on the day.
- ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ Bear: cute and friendly.
- (っ◔◡◔)っ ♥ Hug: sending love.
Kaomoji, emoticons and emoji
Western emoticons like :) are read sideways. Kaomoji come from Japan and are read upright, like (^_^), which lets the eyes show many more expressions. Emoji are pictures drawn by your phone or computer, while kaomoji and emoticons are made entirely from text characters.
Text Faces FAQ
- What is the Lenny face?
- The Lenny face, ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°), is a text face that spread across internet forums in 2012. It usually signals a mischievous smirk.
- How do I type the shrug?
- Copy ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ from this page. Some apps treat the backslash as formatting, so if an arm disappears, use the Discord version on the shrug page.
- Are text faces the same as emoji?
- No. Emoji are images drawn by your device, while text faces are made of ordinary characters, so they work in places emoji do not.
