Hacker Typer

Mash the keyboard, watch code pour down the screen, and look extremely busy.

About the Hacker Typer

Hacker typer does exactly one thing: every key you press adds more code to the screen, whichever key it was. The result is the movie version of hacking, where somebody types furiously and green text floods a black terminal while a progress bar races along.

Click the terminal so it has focus, then hit any keys you like. Go fullscreen for the full effect, and use the Access granted and Access denied buttons for the dramatic finish. Auto type keeps the code flowing if you would rather sit back.

None of it is real. The page is not connected to anything, nothing runs on your computer, and the text on screen is ordinary sample code that does nothing at all.

How to use it

  1. Click inside the terminal so it takes your keystrokes.
  2. Press any keys. The code appears no matter what you type.
  3. Go fullscreen, then hit Access granted for the finale. Escape exits.

What people use it for

  • Pranking a friend who walks past your screen
  • Background footage for videos and streams
  • School plays, talent shows and film projects
  • Making a screenshot look far more dramatic than it is
  • Convincing a younger sibling you are extremely technical

How the trick works

The page holds one long block of harmless sample code. Each keystroke reveals the next few characters of it, so the code appears in order and looks like you are typing it perfectly at impossible speed. The characters you actually press are ignored completely, which is why you can close your eyes and mash.

Hacker Typer FAQ

Is hacker typer real hacking?
No. It is a text animation on a web page. There is no connection to any system, nothing is installed, and the code shown is sample code that does nothing.
How do I exit fullscreen?
Press Escape, which is the standard fullscreen exit in every browser.
Can I change the color or speed?
Yes. Pick a green, amber or blue terminal, and set how many characters each keystroke adds.
Is it okay to prank someone with this?
Keep it to people who will laugh. Do not use it to claim you have accessed someone's accounts or systems, which stops being a joke very quickly.
