Superpower Generator

Every power here comes with a catch. That is what makes it interesting.

About the Superpower Generator

A superpower with no limits is boring. A superpower with a stupid limit is a story. This generator always pairs a real power with a catch, so you get combinations like the ability to teleport, but only while barefoot.

Writers use these as prompts, game masters hand them to players as cursed gifts, and groups use them as a party question: would you take this deal? Add an everyday object to build a power around it.

Each tap gives you five powers. Star the ones worth keeping and copy the list.

How to use it

  1. Press Generate for five random superpowers.
  2. Optionally name an everyday object to build a power around it.
  3. Star the best ones and copy them for your story, game or group chat.

Example superpowers

  • Your superpower: find any lost object, but you get very hungry afterwards.
  • Your superpower: teleport to any place you have already been, but only on Tuesdays.
  • The power to breathe underwater, but you sneeze each time you use it.

Ways to use a superpower prompt

  • Writing: give a character the power and the catch, then write the day it goes wrong.
  • Tabletop games: hand one out as a cursed item or a chaotic blessing.
  • Party question: read one out and make everyone say yes or no to the deal.
  • Art: draw the moment the drawback ruins something important.
  • Class activity: ask students to argue why their power is the most useful.

Superpower Generator FAQ

Why does every power have a drawback?
Limits are what make powers interesting. A hero who can do anything has no story, while a hero who can stop time but only on Tuesdays has a problem to solve.
Can I use these for a story or a game?
Yes. Every combination is randomly generated, so use them freely in fiction, tabletop games, class projects or videos.
What is a good superpower for a character?
One that solves a problem while creating a bigger one. The best powers force a character to choose between two things they want.
