Yoda Translator

Type a sentence, and backwards it comes out. Wise, you will sound.

About the Yoda Translator

Yoda, the small green Jedi master from Star Wars, is famous for his backwards way of talking. Instead of saying you must learn patience, he says Learn patience, you must. Linguists call this object subject verb order. It is rare in human languages, which is part of why it sounds so wise and so strange.

This translator finds the helper verb in each sentence, like must, will, is or can, and moves everything after it to the front. Questions get flipped too, so are you ready becomes Ready, are you? Turn on the extras to sprinkle in a thoughtful hmm.

It works best on short, simple sentences, just like Yoda himself. Long sentences with lots of commas may come out more confusing than wise.

How to use it

  1. Type a short sentence in plain English.
  2. Read the Yoda version as you type.
  3. Copy it for your caption, card or group chat.
